The service is the same as in singles play and is made to the diagonal box. The order of service is determined at the beginning of each set. If you serve in game one, your partner will serve in game three. One of your opponents will serve in game two, and the other in game four. This order is retained throughout the set. A change in order of serve can be made at the beginning of the next set.
The receivers in the first game decide which player will receive the first serve. That player receives in every odd numbered game. The same goes for the opposing team. The server starts the game from the right-hand side of the court and alternate between the right and left after each point. The receiving players do not change sides after each point, but they do take turns to receive. After the serve is returned and a rally is started, it does not matter which team member hits the ball, as long as it is returned over the net to the other side.
A fault occurs if a service hits the server's partner. If the serve hits the receiver's partner before hitting the ground, the serving team wins the point.
